During an interview with Bloomberg, Verizon CFO Francis Shammo spilled the beans about an upcoming version of the Apple iPad. The new device will use CDMA technology making it compatible with Verizon's network.
Currently, people who want to buy an iPad must choose between a WiFi-only version or a 3G (GSM) enabled version of the device. The iPad 3G isn't locked to AT&T like the GSM version of the iPhone is, but since it doesn't use CDMA (the technology behind Verizon's 3G network), it can't be used there. Verizon has begun selling the WiFi-only iPad in its retail stores, however, which can be used on Verizon's 3G network via MiFi wireless hotspot. Enterprising tinkerers have also learned how to modify their iPads so that they can get onto Verizon's network without a MiFi, but such a mod isn't very accessible for most users.
